Historic Footbridge Plate Reinstalled at Radcliffe-on-Trent Station by Dedicated Volunteers

A remarkable piece of Radcliffe-on-Trent’s railway heritage has been carefully restored and proudly reinstalled at the station, thanks to the unwavering dedication of the Friends of Radcliffe Station volunteer group.

The adopters, who work tirelessly to enhance and care for the station, were honoured to receive an original plate from the former Radcliffe Station footbridge. Recognising its historical importance, the group made it a priority project, ensuring the artefact would be preserved for future generations. In collaboration with Radcliffe Repair Café, the plate was meticulously restored to its original condition, reflecting both the craftsmanship of the past and the commitment of today’s community.

Now prominently displayed at the station, the restored plate stands as a powerful symbol of Radcliffe-on-Trent’s railway heritage, in conjunction with our recent celebrations of Railway 200 it offers passengers and visitors a tangible connection to the station’s history. Its installation not only preserves an important legacy but also enriches the station environment, blending heritage with the group’s ongoing enhancement work. The occasion was marked by a gathering of volunteers, celebrating both the restoration and the shared pride in safeguarding local history.

Beyond this significant achievement, the Friends of Radcliffe Station continue to demonstrate exceptional dedication in their efforts to improve the station. From maintaining a protected wildflower garden to delivering creative art and mural projects, their work ensures the station is both welcoming and environmentally enriching.

Their continued care of the station’s surroundings, including the vibrant flower borders along the approach road, provides an ever-changing seasonal display that benefits passengers and the wider community.

The Friends of Radcliffe Station exemplify the impact of committed community volunteers. Their work not only enhances the station’s appearance but also preserves its heritage, ensuring that its history remains visible and valued. The group warmly welcomes new volunteers and donations of plants to support their ongoing efforts.
