Friends of Radcliffe Station group work tirelessly to make not only the station but the approach to the station inviting, when they saw an opportunity to improve the area they jumped at the chance. It had been noticed that cars were parking on the verge where the ‘long bed’ was. The group worked hard to ensure there was a wildflower garden, shrubs, plants and a variety of colour however the verge was being driven up onto and the area was becoming trampled and damaged. The Adopters regularly attend the station preparing the area, planting, digging and clearing the area of weeds making a blank canvas for the spring summer and autumn blooms.
With some careful consideration it was decided that there needed to be protection added to ensure the area was kept beautiful. FoRs approached the Poacher Line asking it we could install some fencing to enable the area to have a barrier from vehicles and allow the long bed to bloom to its best ability. Funding was successfully obtained from Community Rail Network, EMR, Cross County Trains and Poacher Line to enable the £4039 needed to complete the project.
Completion of this project has enabled the station to remain not only accessible for vehicles but aesthetically pleasing, allowing the natural habitat of bugs and bees, small animals and flowers to bloom.
The group can now continue to tend to the long bed, plant more flowers, bedding plants and wildflowers and give Radcliffe Station the approach it deserves! A Beautiful one.
Thankyou to our partners for funding this project as it is a great addition to the station that is used by 100> every day.
